Missing Pages
Each year thousand of tourists go missing while abroad. Through 'Missing Pages' Blackbook Traveler philanthropically provides resources for families of missing travelers. Top priority is given to all missing traveler reports logged through this site. Once posted the site creates an instant ‘Missing Persons Poster' for each person which can be shared, emailed, downloaded and printed in many languages. All posts are linked to social media.
Blackbook Traveler continues to conduct social media campaigns for missing travelers at no expense to families. We target 'en mass' the location where the person went missing, utilising facebook paid advertising and twitter. In some regions these campaigns have reached up to 300,000 locals in just a few days, gathering feed back and encouraging distribution of posters and post sharing. This resource is invaluable at targeting locals in distant countries, as many families would be unable to, without links to these countries or the expertise.
Since December 2013 we have run 26 campaigns around the world in search of travelers who have gone missing. To date these include campaigns in regions of Canada (2), Australia, U.S.A (2), France, Austria, India, Nepal (10), South Africa and Cambodia, for missing Nationals from Great Britain, Ireland, Slovakia, Hungary, Finland, Norway, Germany, U.S.A, Malaysia, Spain and Austraiia. And through these campaigns we have liaised with families, locals, emergency services, police and embassies.
Time is crucial when any person goes missing. However, the situation is further complicated for families when a relative goes missing in a distant country. Families may be faced with issues such as language barriers, customs, laws, bureaucracy, lack of resources or even natural disasters and war. And most governments are limited in what support they can and will provide.
Media and Social Media can provide a key role in gaining public awareness and support in locating missing travelers.
